<br />
Use a 1/4" seam allowance unless otherwise stated.<br />
<br />
<b>Step 1:</b><br />
Right-sides together stitch one main fabric to one background fabric on the short side. Do this for all 20 pieces.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBWtqbSca0E2rp5jksqUko2Q1exogopo5sVB9uw5tpZw26e4U1HR5iqkWj2IQIROShbAQ-Ur0ZQn2dyOadOkXd5fT1bUKtJSnet_2OCL1DewBz_ovbQW13FxSJdvGMLJ76dsGaVAy_1A60/s1600/2chainpiece.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBWtqbSca0E2rp5jksqUko2Q1exogopo5sVB9uw5tpZw26e4U1HR5iqkWj2IQIROShbAQ-Ur0ZQn2dyOadOkXd5fT1bUKtJSnet_2OCL1DewBz_ovbQW13FxSJdvGMLJ76dsGaVAy_1A60/s320/2chainpiece.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Step 2:</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now stitch the opposite short sides together to form a tube.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_uKJDNxrl1ussmg1RDSd6cNc9Gtxr5q1VYEQyfvTRln8rYAvk_2V2CaWS2pX5KZM2elOplpmJMlTWv7L2TBMhxyYMpuls2dKNW80YSdre3PwgoypTmW4Q-9eROm_vNOLx0ef7NVyzG7uT/s1600/3tube.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_uKJDNxrl1ussmg1RDSd6cNc9Gtxr5q1VYEQyfvTRln8rYAvk_2V2CaWS2pX5KZM2elOplpmJMlTWv7L2TBMhxyYMpuls2dKNW80YSdre3PwgoypTmW4Q-9eROm_vNOLx0ef7NVyzG7uT/s320/3tube.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
It may seem a little weird if you've never used this technique before, but It will work out!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbzk1kZ55kJrL7IDY-U0lqQfcC75A3H8-fAXbCc8vqtBGLHO8enatCKUUzV8J7q70shZ0weoKfX0Lh9D8d-UghzxVXxOitbZeyn-MA7ZqxAQdc6l5XuZaagk_YNJGRoY0sFOgPHCs9ZHkn/s1600/4chainpiecetube.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbzk1kZ55kJrL7IDY-U0lqQfcC75A3H8-fAXbCc8vqtBGLHO8enatCKUUzV8J7q70shZ0weoKfX0Lh9D8d-UghzxVXxOitbZeyn-MA7ZqxAQdc6l5XuZaagk_YNJGRoY0sFOgPHCs9ZHkn/s320/4chainpiecetube.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
When you are done your tubes should look like this.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsNTe-GhBZvJO_gvI7Bm0uhfFmKE5sk6k0S7dFPEICIn9Q6Irhyphenhyphen4DjUTefABjfycGWtOjPDQFuC2KZON5K5TMT2LWY98vlPLGmmqx2p5nGw46wqP5uGhyphenhyphenGfdO9p5bGGXJ6HfYj_xGGmfjX/s1600/5alltubes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsNTe-GhBZvJO_gvI7Bm0uhfFmKE5sk6k0S7dFPEICIn9Q6Irhyphenhyphen4DjUTefABjfycGWtOjPDQFuC2KZON5K5TMT2LWY98vlPLGmmqx2p5nGw46wqP5uGhyphenhyphenGfdO9p5bGGXJ6HfYj_xGGmfjX/s320/5alltubes.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Step 3:</b><br />
Now randomly snip the background fabric of your tubes so that they can open up and lie flat.<br />
Tip 1: Use a steady hand so your fabric is straight and you don't have to trim off later -making a smaller coaster.<br />
Tip 2: Cut at least 3/8" away from a seam line that way the background shows after the coaster is made.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNxcZqpvYocJNDK4yv_AHY1SygLb-U8X07B0XXPLO7HsR-vRlfuAhdiZFansWXXOto216666NKCWdEUqA7yUzAD1njRCohtks6bNKKRE6TJBjRf_TYqfn0oOD3rvMuyi6eLhUb9Cr9qC4F/s1600/6sniptubes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNxcZqpvYocJNDK4yv_AHY1SygLb-U8X07B0XXPLO7HsR-vRlfuAhdiZFansWXXOto216666NKCWdEUqA7yUzAD1njRCohtks6bNKKRE6TJBjRf_TYqfn0oOD3rvMuyi6eLhUb9Cr9qC4F/s320/6sniptubes.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Step 4:</b><br />
Press your tubes open so they are strips. Press towards the dark.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpOgttatwr_yFvWBVz2olVsg-4-QdGkNkhGgTn1ZrIpcuaIzTHkOq3datyc7B2D7WASj0IE3O0zxxeJCJ7ZeiomFJ8D5IhSNoyJ8qKyNMztKCUnsR6tlAEkbtU3cJeicyQMUbDVQOYzfNe/s1600/7ironopen.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpOgttatwr_yFvWBVz2olVsg-4-QdGkNkhGgTn1ZrIpcuaIzTHkOq3datyc7B2D7WASj0IE3O0zxxeJCJ7ZeiomFJ8D5IhSNoyJ8qKyNMztKCUnsR6tlAEkbtU3cJeicyQMUbDVQOYzfNe/s320/7ironopen.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Step 5:</b><br />
(Missing Picture) Arrange your strips in 4 sets of five and stitch the strips in each set together to form 4 rectangles. (Should look like the right square in step 6 picture.)<br />
<br />
<b>Step 6:</b><br />
Square up our rectangles to be 5" square. (This will require cutting about 1/4" off each first and last strip.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMutbDlSsdK6dzaxJP3Hth8HDvvsySS14i2HTpnhpQEAU5lhhc97vX2n6YUw_9t6r1TjhNpRbJAiL4RDaVralsUC29RUQzeFRmSl1zvlA3g-dYeYm5GouDJSEOf7FCMrln5llZkoSuY8uW/s1600/8squareup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMutbDlSsdK6dzaxJP3Hth8HDvvsySS14i2HTpnhpQEAU5lhhc97vX2n6YUw_9t6r1TjhNpRbJAiL4RDaVralsUC29RUQzeFRmSl1zvlA3g-dYeYm5GouDJSEOf7FCMrln5llZkoSuY8uW/s320/8squareup.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Step 7:</b><br />
Create your coaster sandwiches by placing your backing square and coaster top right-sides together, and then placing your flannel square on top of those. Stitch around all sides leaving an opening for turning at the bottom. Do this for all 4 sets.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_24hDKwffsRpTNdryfLjX99Z9Y93QXQHSI1xyqAg6iXuL0lL50IHS_o_5FcaPFLBAVt2Tdw_Vb8-gB7DTxB7ymaC9K9yriIsryGI_sHekq5GBSZy9GDXyBVx-tBSlkf8KBadmLLgVx2yw/s1600/9openning.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_24hDKwffsRpTNdryfLjX99Z9Y93QXQHSI1xyqAg6iXuL0lL50IHS_o_5FcaPFLBAVt2Tdw_Vb8-gB7DTxB7ymaC9K9yriIsryGI_sHekq5GBSZy9GDXyBVx-tBSlkf8KBadmLLgVx2yw/s320/9openning.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Step 8:</b><br />
Clip all your corners and turn the coasters right-side out so that the flannel is on the inside. Press flat with the seam allowance from the opening tucked in. Then using a smaller seam allowance top-stitch near the edge of each coaster to close it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I am going to guest blog today for Quilting Mayhem. For those of you who have had the pleasure of shopping in person at Quilting Mayhem might know me, Katie. I love Halloween! It is my favorite time of the year. The weather is changing and the crisp, cool air nips at your face in the morning. The smell of a wood burning fireplace mixes in with the breeze. It is perfect quilting weather! I have always had a thing for fall weather and Halloween. I wanted to share with you my recipe for Brains! Red Velvet cookie Brains, that is.<br />
<br />
Gather your ingredients:<br />
<br />
One Box Red Velvet Cake Mix<br />
Two Eggs<br />
One teaspoon Vanilla Extract<br />
1/3 of a cup of Butter melted<br />
1 1/2 cups of Powdered Sugar (set aside)<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9qq9d__0fjsnNGDwapjgI9OpShFVqftaJlITOGWejrgQjoWq3uM5Sa_7fKSJ1J0QvrbyFevUQWVb0bFB-k7tKyLaSFigAlUuW1DncC0S-ScFYKvJ8E-gBacG5g1ngelzkChZn9WlNbl1S/s1600/IMG_3348.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9qq9d__0fjsnNGDwapjgI9OpShFVqftaJlITOGWejrgQjoWq3uM5Sa_7fKSJ1J0QvrbyFevUQWVb0bFB-k7tKyLaSFigAlUuW1DncC0S-ScFYKvJ8E-gBacG5g1ngelzkChZn9WlNbl1S/s320/IMG_3348.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Open the boxed cake mix and place in the bowl.<br />
<br />
Use a whisk to break up any clumps in the cake mix.<br />
<br />
Add eggs to the slightly cooled melted butter and whisk together adding the vanilla just after combined. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkkVA83X73sXYSuST4c1JUtg9Jejs9FuHbes91Ojl2s_gl6qzuSr-wDkwnHYJ9athGyfuRGt6uUc0uCEgFgIJ67Z2JjmcAMxdcRldBfJIiQjiVyaKxPoatxA-Casy6S2LONukgFb8hFxUV/s1600/IMG_3350.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkkVA83X73sXYSuST4c1JUtg9Jejs9FuHbes91Ojl2s_gl6qzuSr-wDkwnHYJ9athGyfuRGt6uUc0uCEgFgIJ67Z2JjmcAMxdcRldBfJIiQjiVyaKxPoatxA-Casy6S2LONukgFb8hFxUV/s320/IMG_3350.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Add butter, eggs and vanilla mixture to the cake. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5ALYQcLWth9ikRUmfr-zxv6MYeDCQzArHkyEavuIxGN51XV83DIXJkMU3wHaUXeZZhh_aVfFOUfAeFRKlcwObwf6k2ckRt20EdsZgqijxjG3trsddpNomG8aSe47Z_eObYusZ7VYRGv97/s1600/IMG_3351.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5ALYQcLWth9ikRUmfr-zxv6MYeDCQzArHkyEavuIxGN51XV83DIXJkMU3wHaUXeZZhh_aVfFOUfAeFRKlcwObwf6k2ckRt20EdsZgqijxjG3trsddpNomG8aSe47Z_eObYusZ7VYRGv97/s320/IMG_3351.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Fold in mixture until just combined. You do not want to over mix.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidjHWTp5JLJIWF2OnrhLe7njHittTZ3NborOycvKVJp6AMeFIRc_XekfbD1yCBcJbs0oZT7lDXDHvBE8VVzVHjr4Nt-CaQHnSQp__xinL8JKfxP5_Lu8ESVxEwhB6aAQhpV5XqbVIaXCV4/s1600/IMG_3352.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidjHWTp5JLJIWF2OnrhLe7njHittTZ3NborOycvKVJp6AMeFIRc_XekfbD1yCBcJbs0oZT7lDXDHvBE8VVzVHjr4Nt-CaQHnSQp__xinL8JKfxP5_Lu8ESVxEwhB6aAQhpV5XqbVIaXCV4/s320/IMG_3352.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
In a separate dish like this one. Smallish and shallow add the powdered sugar. You could do this step in a plastic bag to shake coat the cookies. I find that I prefer to roll them in the dish for extra sugar coating.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVXXUETijUhCqHTas5gsaydYNgMhcGRSu60fApMU-yHXmSHpIaF6vAoTKMeX3NCrIr4r1fWT47G2ry-U90BBMId1Luyep1PQ2zfUL4R5jCOX9E7w6qjakYlQ6_tRs6nr1z7rYnDuRtrwga/s1600/IMG_3353.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVXXUETijUhCqHTas5gsaydYNgMhcGRSu60fApMU-yHXmSHpIaF6vAoTKMeX3NCrIr4r1fWT47G2ry-U90BBMId1Luyep1PQ2zfUL4R5jCOX9E7w6qjakYlQ6_tRs6nr1z7rYnDuRtrwga/s320/IMG_3353.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
If you have a small cookie scoop that would be helpful but I just used a small single spoon. Roll the cookie dough into an approximate 1" long by 1/2" roll. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJ8qUokPaWxj_X5AjL-U-vi_xbTXRzGND3mtLxCmPOKQ9jnlifEdpC2S1vQSgE-1oj9wW4esJjWzG788OWnKGKWjzG4kixy8y6im49yat-s8DyB_dqcQXDt8bgdRVglAO08dBLsifNbdJL/s1600/IMG_3354.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJ8qUokPaWxj_X5AjL-U-vi_xbTXRzGND3mtLxCmPOKQ9jnlifEdpC2S1vQSgE-1oj9wW4esJjWzG788OWnKGKWjzG4kixy8y6im49yat-s8DyB_dqcQXDt8bgdRVglAO08dBLsifNbdJL/s320/IMG_3354.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Roll in powdered sugar until well coated.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLkOKbKvuOEHXfJKndwSrBXsvlavVtZoDzFw8eAb_Cfam_u7UbG6Dnp1thpZhqZgqDGF3-a_qoJKck26P9cl-mva-OeNgyloicRPTl0hlE3Y1uklCHQuWMc6uy9QRrz7Em-lX6_vOnT1l_/s1600/IMG_3356.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLkOKbKvuOEHXfJKndwSrBXsvlavVtZoDzFw8eAb_Cfam_u7UbG6Dnp1thpZhqZgqDGF3-a_qoJKck26P9cl-mva-OeNgyloicRPTl0hlE3Y1uklCHQuWMc6uy9QRrz7Em-lX6_vOnT1l_/s320/IMG_3356.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
This is a picture of my first batch. I didn't space them far enough apart for the brain hemispheres to show up after baking. Make sure to space the rolls at least 1/2" apart.<br />

With a yard of fabric and 30 minutes I have a home made accessory that I can either custom make to go with my wardrobe or make one as a gift for a friend.<br />
<br />
Follow these step by step instructions to make your own infinity scarf.<br />
<br />
Supplies Needed:<br />
1 yard fabric such as <a href="http://www.quiltingmayhem.com/module/search_content.htm?form_version=2&showSearchResults=1&search_keyword=double+gauze&btnSearchSubmit=Search" target="_blank">double gauze</a>, cotton lawn, rayon, or light weight quilters cotton.<br />
Coordinating cotton thread<br />
Sewing machine with basic tools<br />
Rotary cutter with new blade<br />
Cutting mat<br />
6 1/2" x 24 1/2" or 8 1/2" x 24 1/2" ruler<br />
Scissors<br />
Pins<br />
<br />
Ready to go?<br />
<br />
I used a <a href="http://www.quiltingmayhem.com/shop/c/p/Trinket-Happy-Garden-Double-Gauze-Orange-x16964181.htm">double gauze from Cotton + Steel called Trinket</a>. I like making scarves from double gauze because they are lightweight and soft to wear. Who couldn't love these smiling daisies??<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEja_zMKGxBS9NE3lSrhDosbWwbIEV9sMikYTljm3sOnlBPmyUroEn0CKnuTgP6j4WTSHinY552nRTMsvB445oYBQxuTX9s06PQYZiv-8CC4rUn8Xcvj5UywAqDm7j7cLZl3cpvJB4bR-7Ct/s1600/20160802_152704_HDR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEja_zMKGxBS9NE3lSrhDosbWwbIEV9sMikYTljm3sOnlBPmyUroEn0CKnuTgP6j4WTSHinY552nRTMsvB445oYBQxuTX9s06PQYZiv-8CC4rUn8Xcvj5UywAqDm7j7cLZl3cpvJB4bR-7Ct/s400/20160802_152704_HDR.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Start out getting your fabric trimmed up and ready to sew.<br />
1. Fold fabric in half matching selvage to selvage.<br />
2. Trim both short sides so you have clean straight edges.<br />
3. Cut the length of the fabric at the selvage edge then cut fabric length wise at the fold so you have two pieces approx. 20" x 36".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8IgO5-bUxQ87WBxqAk9NPbvNuEY6rtwlj3R_tSfyLnNA4ksVT6N01nkLkQERiH1Xo21uqQbaZZoXiq7cigF1hi3MwfjgvyuHIEd9WF4OtqzrTRZMBc4jx8DOoX83XBcxOVy9hPq6nSlin/s1600/20160802_153345_HDR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8IgO5-bUxQ87WBxqAk9NPbvNuEY6rtwlj3R_tSfyLnNA4ksVT6N01nkLkQERiH1Xo21uqQbaZZoXiq7cigF1hi3MwfjgvyuHIEd9WF4OtqzrTRZMBc4jx8DOoX83XBcxOVy9hPq6nSlin/s400/20160802_153345_HDR.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
4. Match the two short sides right sides together and sew 3/8" seam and press open.<br />
5. You will now have one long piece of fabric approx. 20" x "71"<br />
6. Fold fabric in half lengthwise with right sides together. Match the edges together and pin.<br />
7. Sew 3/8" down the long side. This will create a long tube.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtRkehGY_FeYcewIQuUXRxhgPnyf9WTQtnKRIXKlT-GfLUaBICcBK69NQGHFPbJ1s_rWpgg5KuKmCEBq9zNji7pRUC0pn1tCDtts5Wz22utBU2iKChDVjXwcKWyCXY9wAHadGN-KGUB4k4/s1600/20160802_153626_HDR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtRkehGY_FeYcewIQuUXRxhgPnyf9WTQtnKRIXKlT-GfLUaBICcBK69NQGHFPbJ1s_rWpgg5KuKmCEBq9zNji7pRUC0pn1tCDtts5Wz22utBU2iKChDVjXwcKWyCXY9wAHadGN-KGUB4k4/s400/20160802_153626_HDR.jpg" width="225" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxD3o4u24aMgcrxygS8lers3bHBegZQMCDrxkLQR0AN-N0tnpO8QqAo7BDupsdBZtJsJbghjhDorUOp-pj4kMhuVyWdV-JMHoPGiwCzyniN8DIdKFZ2d65xUz8LCRJJ6bIfCgKx2mTt3m3/s1600/20160802_155804_HDR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxD3o4u24aMgcrxygS8lers3bHBegZQMCDrxkLQR0AN-N0tnpO8QqAo7BDupsdBZtJsJbghjhDorUOp-pj4kMhuVyWdV-JMHoPGiwCzyniN8DIdKFZ2d65xUz8LCRJJ6bIfCgKx2mTt3m3/s400/20160802_155804_HDR.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
8. On both short ends place a pin at the seam and the opposite side from the seam marking the half way point.<br />
9. Reach in the fabric tube, grab the far end and pill the fabric into the tube. Careful to not lose the pins or stick yourself.<br />
10. Bring both short sides right sides together. Here is where you want to put a twist in your infinity scarf.<br />
11. Rotate the inside short end and match the seam to the pinned half way point of the outside short end and pin.<br />
12. Pin the outer seam to the where the inside halfway pin is.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEip5lP_diwbXhlpsZ5llIA8GgE47wJ_pgUQkoTMaaIoocqlBY75v27Gvfgh_qmdoIqqZKYn0MJoWz5wySUuSaAP4tB4mk5p2dtaxAVUUDOCH5fyuXGytCM6X1XVeK3ZsFLpANhl3wXcNiuG/s1600/20160802_160228_HDR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEip5lP_diwbXhlpsZ5llIA8GgE47wJ_pgUQkoTMaaIoocqlBY75v27Gvfgh_qmdoIqqZKYn0MJoWz5wySUuSaAP4tB4mk5p2dtaxAVUUDOCH5fyuXGytCM6X1XVeK3ZsFLpANhl3wXcNiuG/s400/20160802_160228_HDR.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
13. Place a few more pins around edge leaving a 4" opening.<br />
14. Sew 3/8" seam around the edge leaving the 4" opening. Stay stitch at the beginning and end.<br />
15. Pull the right side of the scarf out of the 4"opening until the scarf is all the way out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

One of the key things all of us at the shop like to do it share our ideas and knowledge. Between all of us at the store we have over 100 years of quilting and sewing experience. That's a lot of information we have to share. I am fortunate to have such an amazing staff full of experience. In the next several months you will see us strive to not only share with you when you ask for help but also create some wonderful promotions to teach you tips and tricks to make your quilting and sewing experiences even better. We all strive to learn more and do better in what we make so why not give you some events that will focus on doing just that and for FREE!!<br />

Classes are something I always get excited about because it focuses on a pattern or project that we love. All of us in the shop have our favorite styles and types of projects whether they be traditional or modern quilts, bags, clothes, housewares, etc. Fortunately we all take turns teaching classes for these types of projects we love. You will be seeing even more classes coming in a variety of projects. If there is something you would like to see us teaching please let us know. You never know it might be one we have coming or it may be one we can create for you. <br />

You can't do classes without having clubs and block of the months. You will be seeing even more of these coming in the fall PLUS we are going to start a Saturday Sampler program AND a new concept of block swap. We are so excited for this I can't contain myself. We are hammering out the details and will be launching these soon.<br />

Fabric is of course our true addiction and what inspires us to make and create wonderful things. We went crazy finding all kinds of lovely fabric and maybe even a little overboard but really there is no such thing as too much fabric (even though my husband would disagree). So please keep coming to visit us whether it be in the shop or online. We always have new fun bright fabrics, patterns and notions coming in for you to love as much as we do.<br />

My final words to say are Thank You!! To all of you who support me in my dream. To those of you who visit my shop and share my passion. Especially to those of you who tell your friends and even strangers sometimes that they need to come see us. Without all of you I could not be doing what I am doing today. I truly appreciate all of you who have "Embraced the Mayhem" and truly keep us going. Please keep visiting, keep sharing and tell everyone you know what wonderful things we have to offer to everyone.<br />

I can't. So many things have happened since then. The first day we opened is just a blur. I want to thank all of you who have helped me along my journey. I have made so many new sewing friends. I am truly thankful.<br />
<br />
Just over a year ago Katie joined me in my crazy dream to open and amazing quilt shop in Snohomish. She has been my rock, my sanity and the devil on my shoulder. She met me at the shop every day to cut and prep all the bolts of fabric that had been waiting in my home. Alix soon joined us in dragging bolts from my house to the class room. Unwrapping bolt upon bolt with my boys Alex and Zach. The day we finally had the bookcases ready you'd think we won the lottery. Katie and I were so happy every day we came in and got to look at our color wall. We were like kids in a candy store. Fabric candy that its.<br />

Aren't these just the prettiest things you have ever seen?<br />
<br />
Soon we had our opening day. What a insane day that was figuring out the computer system and getting everyone through the store. My poor husband patiently dealing with all the problems for us and continues to put up me when we have "issues". I have to give a shout out to my mother, Donna, who was there for me in the early days and continues to help out when I need her. Her love and support has truly been wonderful. The first day was a wonderful day filled with smiles and budding friendships and it continues to be that way. These are just a few of the reasons I am glad I made the decision to open my own shop. <br />

Since those days we have added even more fabric. Who knew I'd figure out how to fit 500 more bolts into this place?? We have added more staff that I couldn't do without. Judi, Trina, Chelsey and Allison all have their different talents and skills that they bring to the cutting table. These lovely ladies keep me inspired and make sure everything keeps rolling. <br />

Left to Right: Chelsey, Allison, Mindy, Alix, Judi, Katie, Donna and Trina. (We even know how to color coordinate without even trying.)<br />
<br />
Classes are still continuing to grow as we pick up more instructors and offered more types of classes. Jane, Lori, Krista, Joyce, Jackie, Connie, Sheila, Sydney, Kathy, Melanie and Donna have all been wonderful to work with and great teachers to have in the shop. If you haven't gotten to take a class yet check out our website to see what all we have to offer. <br />
<br />
I can't thank everyone enough for all the love and support. Snohomish is our home. Mayhem is our life and we are here to stay.<br />

We've had a crazy week getting ready for our one year anniversary for the store. The time has gone by so fast and it's hard to believe how far we have come since I first started this adventure. My family, friends and co-workers have all been amazing and supportive through this entire year. I couldn't have done it without them.<br />
<br />
This picture definitely takes me back to the 80's when I was a kid and at a school skate party. I broke my arm while there with my best friend who is still my bestie to this date. Can't say it's the best memory and my kids still don't understand why I wouldn't be excited to put skates on. <br />
<br />
I took the challenge of this picture by storm this week and went a little crazy with the aqua/teal and mixing it with the deeper reds and greens. Surprisingly it worked for me. Some of you might think I'm crazy and you're right! I just love how playing with these pictures color palettes and fabric really make me see beyond my normal color scales that I have used for years. Ask me to put aqua and red together and you'd get a funny look from me but now I really want to try it. <br />
<br />
I hope you enjoy my crazy selection as much as I do!<br />

Or even blogged for that matter. I need to rectify this problem. I love playing with colors and fabric when I do my color play. Hopefully you love my choices as much as I do. As always I am very thankful it is FRIDAY!!!! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I really love this weeks picture that was chosen. Besides just being an amazing reflection of the Seattle Space Needle on the EMP building the color and texture it captures is beautiful. My love for the color orange is not one of my best kept secrets. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">The picture captures the true essence of Seattle. Typical overcast sky with the tail end of a nearby sunset reflecting off the metal exterior. I would have loved to have been there at this time. So many things were in play at the time to make this picture so perfect.</span><br />

<b>Happy April Fool's Color Play Friday!! </b><br />
This is one of my favorite days because it is my oldest daughters birthday. I started quilting when she was born. I was fortunate to be able to work part time so my mom was taught me how to quilt. I joined her quilt group and took some classes from Roxanne Carter who to this day is still one of my favorite teachers. That was 22 years ago today. Who would have thought that all that would have brought me here today.<br />
<br />
If you've been following along you might have noticed we've had a lot of pink to purple pictures lately. These are some of my favorite colors to work with. When I first started quilting purple and green was in every one of my quilts. I'm glad to say I have expanded my choices in colors these days. I try to embrace every color and occasionally I even get out of my traditional box of color choices and try to use some colors that I shy away from, <br />
<br />
Some people choose to just not work with certain colors. I have heard more than once "I don't use that color". While that is a personal choice I feel it is good to try new things including new colors in fabrics. I have seen several techniques people use to make them go outside of their color box. Some people will ease in to a new color slowly by trying small bits. Some go bold and just do a whole quilt or project in a color they once would not touch. <br />
<br />
One of my favorites was a customer who asked if a family member or friend come in to buy for her she wanted them to select a yard of fabric they liked so she would have to work within their favorite fabric. This way she could work with a new palette while creating something for someone else that she knew they would like. I might have to try this sometime.<br />
<br />
Among other things I use Color Play Friday to broaden my color use horizons. Each week I'm given a picture at someone else's choice to pick and choose what colors to play with and pair fabrics up with. I find this challenge fun and appreciate the opportunity to play with fabrics without actually cutting into any. This way I am never disappointed with that I choose. I just start with a new slate each week.<br />
<br />
So on with the beauty of nature and all the wonderful color it brings with it.<br />

<br />
Welcome to an extra special Color Play Friday! Not only did we get a really awesome picture to work with we also have a contest going on provided by Stash Fabrics. So make sure you hop on over to <a href="http://www.inanotterlife.com/" target="_blank">Trina</a> and <a href="http://www.laurelpoppyandpine.com/" target="_blank">Lorinda</a>'s websites for more details on how to win #colorplayfriday fat quarter bundles.
<br />
<br />
Now for the fun part. Playing with color and fabric. Red Starburst are my favorite so seeing a whole bowl of them just makes me giddy. I started with pulling from the reds and pinks in the picture. But I didn't want to just stop there. I have a hard time playing in just one color field and felt that it would have just make it too boring so I added the green and navy.
<br />
<br />
Navy is becoming so popular these days. Navy and coral are becoming my new favorite combination. I am seeing a lot of upcoming fabric lines using this combination. I can't wait to get to play with them more.
<br />
<br />
Because this weeks color play includes a bonus give away I wanted to make sure my fabrics choices we extra special. So true to my style I wanted animals in my fabric choices. To add to the challenge I decided that ALL my fabric choices had to have an animal. You would think this was an easy challenge but I will tell you it wasn't as easy as I would hope.
<br />
<br />
Nevertheless I still came out with a fun set of colors and fabrics that make me happy. Hope you enjoy my picks as much as I do and don't forget to enter to win free fabric.

This has been a roller coaster week for me. I was happy to get a lot of projects done earlier this week and now I feel like I am running behind. This is one of my favorite parts of the week so I am glad it's here.<br />
<br />
I have been to Minneapolis a couple time for work but never really got to see the city to find beautiful buildings like this one. I found some hidden color gems in the flags which gave me a better variety for the palette. The rest I pulled from the trees and sky. <br />
<br />
My color choices gave me a good challenge to try to brighten up what I felt was a somewhat muted palette. We just got Tula Pinks #Chipper fabric in the shop so of course I had to get a couple of those pieces into the selection. My secret (or not so secret) obsession for foxes and owl came through with the adorable fabric from Shauna Scicluna #ForestFable. I just LOVE that fabric!<br />
<br />
Enough talk. On to #ColorPlayFriday !!<br />

Welcome to the first Friday in March and the first edition of #colorplayfriday in March. I can’t tell you how excited I am to see that we are getting closer to Spring. It’s light out when I go to work AND come home!
<br />
<br />
On top of all this lovely daylight it is also the beginning of all the fresh fun colors for Spring. Bring on the pinks, teals, lime greens and yellows!! Let the cheery fabrics be set free in your sewing world. Embrace color.
<br />
<br />
Ok, maybe I’m going a little overboard on the Spring cheer but this weeks picture and color palette I have joined with it just makes me so happy. For the first time I am dying to create something with my fabric choice.
<br />
<br />
I think I’ll call this my “Homage to Allison Glass” and her newest line of Sunprints. I love the prints she came out with and her choice of colors are just so lovely. She does a fabulous job of joining the colors together in the smaller prints. The flowery prints are my favorite. Sadly I have one of everything in my stash just waiting to be made into something breathtaking.
<br />
<br />
I hope this weeks pics make you just as happy as they made me.

It’s Friday! Another day to play with fabric and colors. I had some fun this time with the bright colors within this photo. As with all the #colorplayfriday pictures there are always options of palettes to work with.
<br />
<br />
This week I decided to go more bold than I have the in the past couple weeks. I tried to stay a little more primary in the color choices. I’m not sure if I had more fun picking the bright colors or the fun fabrics to go with it.
<br />
<br />
I am in love with the fishy fabric I found on Hawthorne Threads. It’s just so darn adorable. I don’t know how I don’t go broke looking at all the fabric every week that I always think I “have to have”. Fortunately some self restraint kicks in somewhere. Yes, I have my own quilt shop stocked full of fabrics of love but I still find fabric I don’t have that I love.
<br />
<br />
The yellow gold with red flowers are probably my second favorite and I’m not a flowery type of girl. Lately I have been becoming more drawn to what I would call a modern retro fabric like the yellow piece. Fabrics by Denyse Schmidt and Another Point of View have a certain charm with their bold colors and vintage print.
<br />
<br />
On top of all this talk about bright color and fabric fun I can’t not talk about the fact that this is a picture of New York City. This is one of my top 10 places that I want to visit. Some day I’ll get to see the big city and all it’s crazy chaos. I think I’d fit right in!
<br />
<br />
Enough talk and let’s get to the fun part. Here is my selection of color and fabric for this weeks Color Play Friday.

The <a href="http://www.quiltingmayhem.com/shop/Books/Quilt/p/Sister-Sampler-Quilts-x12347561.htm" target="_blank">Sister Sampler Quilts</a> book is still one of my favorite quilt books that I am doing two different quilt projects from. If you haven’t checked out the blog <a href="http://www.genxquilters.com/" target="_blank">Gen X</a> I highly recommend it.
<br />
<br />
The block this month was called Buttons. It’s outer curve corners were not my favorite and a lot of pins were required for this project. But the finished product is pretty so I can’t complain. Block still needs to be trimmed but it’s ready to swap.

I am still in love with my fabrics which makes this project all the more fun. I am using mostly fabric by <a href="http://www.hawthornethreads.com/fabric/designer/emily_herrick/rustique" target="_blank">Emily Herrick for Michael Miller called Rustique</a>. My first pieces came from a quilt shop in Portland when I was first researching opening my own quilt shop. I was hooked and had to have more of the collection which sat and waited for the right project. When Trina showed me the palette she and Lorinda chose for the swap I knew this fabric finally had a home.
<br />
<br />
I’m glad to have this done and can’t wait for March to come so I can do the next one.
<br />
<br />
Sew…. moving on to the next project.

I thought you would never get here. It’s been a rough week coming back from the family trip and jumping right back into work. We had such a great time and beautiful weather so I can’t complain.
<br />
<br />
#Colorplayfriday is such a fun thing to do every week and I look forward to the challenge of creating new color schemes every week. If you would like to join us in the fun check out the Nitty Gritty section for more details on how to get involved.
<br />
<br />
Now that I am back into my groove it was time to work on giving Skywalker the horse a fabric and color palette as adorable as he is. I swear he looks like he’s saying “Can I have a treat? I’m really, really cute.” This picture just makes me smile every time I look at it.
<br />
<br />
My color choices this week are very soft. I started with the pale blue and it just inspired me to keep everything light. It was somewhat a challenge to get all soft colors from this picture due to Skywalker’s chocolaty coat and the grassy knoll but I got it to work out.
<br />
<br />
The white may have been a “cheater” piece for me but I just couldn’t ruin my soft colors with throwing in anything else. I had fun with the challenge I put on myself this week working with this palette.
<br />
<br />
Without further ado. Introducing the wonderful, magical “Skywalker” and his lovely palette of colors and fabric.

Our lovely teacher Lori Stevens will be showing everyone how to make these adorable blocks. We found this great sew along from <a href="http://beeinmybonnetco.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Bee in My Bonnet</a> creator Lori Holt.
<br />
<br />
If you are new to applique or have never done applique using sew in stabilizer this is the class for you. It’s super easy and makes the pieces easy to work with.
<br />
<br />
While our Lori followed along choosing fabrics from Lori Holt's <a href="http://www.quiltingmayhem.com/shop/Fabric/Collections/Calico-Days.htm" target="_blank">Calico Days</a> line. I chose to do a more modern version. The possibilities are endless. This project lends itself to a variety of fabric choices.

I know my Friday will be awesome because I will be with my family at Disneyland. So I am writing up my Color Play Friday earlier than normal before the crazy sets in for the week.
<br />
<br />
We have another lovely picture of Washington. These color play pics are really making me want Spring to hurry up and get here. I’m really enjoying my palette I chose this week. The rich eggplant purple with the deep avocado green are my favorites. I can’t wait for it to be time for the Tulip Festival again.
<br />
<br />
Of course picking the fabrics to go along with the color palette is always fun too. Allison Glass and Cotton + Steel are always good go to fabrics and I swear they go with everything. Moda always has some great options especially when working with V & Co. and Kate Spain. We are doing some quilt-alongs with Lori Holt using her Calico Days so I though it fit perfectly with my palette.
<br />
<br />
So her we go with what I call “Spring Dreaming”.

I have to admit I have not had the time I would like to do #colorplayfriday this week. Life gets a little crazy and I may have just a bit much on my plate these days.
<br />
<br />
I love the picture Lorinda chose for the week. It is the epitome of Washington. I am a born and raised Washingtonian and very proud of it. I love that we can go from seeing the beautiful Puget Sound to being up in the Mountains in the matter of hours.
<br />
<br />
When trying to chose my color palette I attempt to capture a piece of every part of the picture. I will admit that I tried using the rust color from the structure and just couldn’t find a fabric I liked to go with is so I started over on a color choice and found the almond/cream color.
<br />
<br />

It could be because I’ve gotten to meet and speak with her on a couple occasions and she is just full of fun energy that is contagious. A couple years ago she wrote a book called <a href="http://www.quiltingmayhem.com/shop/c/p/Tula-Pinks-City-Sampler-x7944618.htm" target="_blank">City Sampler</a> that has 100 6 inch pieced blocks. They are nice easy blocks. As she puts it they don’t have any “funny stuff” in the making of them.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigJdgH4J8XfxhuSjjU-FeG0vq3YN-VjOlUlvF1u5wlNteL54hS2ICq3HJoSbPCbY5IAVQu6gqOXt30MTGrBLoMFx9LhN8OLEdzdbe7asCaHveUFpRHw52lfOkgVzC5xyho0DfKeCwgLFE-/s1600/100blockchallenge.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="318" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigJdgH4J8XfxhuSjjU-FeG0vq3YN-VjOlUlvF1u5wlNteL54hS2ICq3HJoSbPCbY5IAVQu6gqOXt30MTGrBLoMFx9LhN8OLEdzdbe7asCaHveUFpRHw52lfOkgVzC5xyho0DfKeCwgLFE-/s320/100blockchallenge.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
As I started working on the calendar for the new year back in December I wanted to start some fun easy clubs for people to join where they could meet people and make some quilty friends.
<br />
<br />
At the <a href="http://sistersoutdoorquiltshow.org/" target="_blank">Sister’s Quilt Show in Sisters</a>, Oregon last year I saw several quilts made from all the blocks from Tula’s City Sampler book. The different colors and layouts inspired me to want to make all 100 blocks. Here are a few quilts that were on display. If you’ve never gone to the Sister’s show I highly recommend going at least once.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjst-WJF9l0gc37rPvFjF1R0jRTq9qETS3QBNaQ_vzr0Hh6_Ft5JCcUcT6hO8EC6udX1mSnYgmV66wQRbtmAKLD_SyidVQF8fLkweAxD4hdl8rBKc1xkiaxR_uZgY4CopqiX9KGVxNuV_QO/s1600/tula100block.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjst-WJF9l0gc37rPvFjF1R0jRTq9qETS3QBNaQ_vzr0Hh6_Ft5JCcUcT6hO8EC6udX1mSnYgmV66wQRbtmAKLD_SyidVQF8fLkweAxD4hdl8rBKc1xkiaxR_uZgY4CopqiX9KGVxNuV_QO/s320/tula100block.jpg" width="177" /></a>

<br />
So the 100 Block Challenge was born not only to get me to make all 100 blocks but to also encourage others to use up that dreaded “stash” that everyone feels guilty about and create this City Sampler quilt. We focus on making 10 blocks per month so that by November you will have all 100 done and can start deciding on your layout. December we will have a show and tell for everyone to show off what they have created. Finished quilt or not.
<br />
<br />

<br />
Katie, my right hand girl, and I are co-teaching the club and we are both making the blocks throughout the year. So come join us for some fun and by the end of the year you’ll have 100 blocks and a beautiful quilt to show for it. There are two club dates per month to chose from. One class on the <a href="http://www.quiltingmayhem.com/module/class.htm?classId=105016" target="_blank">second Saturday</a> and one on the <a href="http://www.quiltingmayhem.com/module/class.htm?classId=115496" target="_blank">fourth Thursday</a> of the month. Check out our calendar to see which one works for you. If you can’t make it to a club you can follow along by watching our emails, Facebook and this blog to see what’s going on.
<br />
<br />
I encourage everyone to post pictures of their blocks as their go. Please add #qm100blockchallenge to your pics either on Facebook or Instagram so we can see how they progress.

The time of year for new growth with all plants blooming. To celebrate the coming of Spring we are following Lori Holt, from Bee in My Bonnet, sew along called Bloom. You may also know her from <a href="http://www.quiltingmayhem.com/shop/c/p/Farm-Girl-Vintage-Softcover-x7623533.htm" target="_blank">Farm Girl Vintage</a> and her fabric line <a href="http://www.quiltingmayhem.com/shop/Fabric/Collections/Calico-Days.htm" target="_blank">Calico Days</a>.
<br />
<br />
Every week Lori Holt will be releasing one of her Bloom blocks every week. If you want to follow along with us at the store you can come to our Blooming Quilt Along the 3rd Sunday of every month, taught by Lori Stevens.
<br />
<br />
I will also be posting pictures of our Lori’s Bloom blocks as the class goes so you can follow along at home if you want. We have the Sew Simple Shape templates in at the store along with all the other supplies Lori Holt suggests for doing her blocks.
<br />
<br />
So let’s start with the basics. There are some supplies that you need to do this sew along. <a href="http://www.quiltingmayhem.com/shop/c/p/Sew-Simple-Shapes-Template-x10583398.htm" target="_blank">Sew Simple Shapes</a> templates created by Lori Holt specifically for Bloom are a must. You will also need sew-in stabilizer to do the applique technique she uses. Some other suggested helpful supplies are Roxanne’s Glue Baste-it, <a href="http://www.quiltingmayhem.com/shop/c/p/Point-2-Point-Turner-x7153025.htm" target="_blank">Point 2 Point Turner</a>, applique pins and a 1/4″ bias tape maker. I also recommend a Frixion pen for tracing templates. If you are doing invisible machine applique I recommend using Monopoly Thread.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrHrT-WN1GROc_9-cc6UWyImAcHJ23MFbluyn7u9qjLaJFgD_eTEAzQBRfKjJpjoPItNuMi9gKJBH36buYsPoRTXj739HHxkt03m9NIfi5YXhaZFj2EzKHup6ECrZj4AocyhlaUqDEQNqx/s1600/20160129_083701-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="282" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrHrT-WN1GROc_9-cc6UWyImAcHJ23MFbluyn7u9qjLaJFgD_eTEAzQBRfKjJpjoPItNuMi9gKJBH36buYsPoRTXj739HHxkt03m9NIfi5YXhaZFj2EzKHup6ECrZj4AocyhlaUqDEQNqx/s320/20160129_083701-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
If you can’t come to class and have Lori Stevens teach you how to do the applique method please visit <a href="http://beeinmybonnetco.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Lori Holt’s Blog Bee in My Bonnet</a> to find videos on how to do the blocks.
<br />
<br />
If you are following along with Lori Stevens class you will see she is using Calico Days by Lori Holt for Riley Blake. It’s a cute new fabric line with a fun vintage feel. We are offering a <a href="http://www.quiltingmayhem.com/shop/c/p/Bloom-Starter-Kit-x12860328.htm" target="_blank">starter kit</a> for this class that includes all the basic fabrics used for the shop sample (minus background fabric). It gives you great variety without having to buy a lot of fabric.
<br />
<br />
Now if you want a more modern look you can use some like you see in my choices below. I chose a variety of black and white backgrounds for the flower blocks and then a mix of Cotton + Steel, Allison Glass plus a few others for bright flowers.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKrPugOHhoOkJ53XP7_i4ogSeBdZHVRV9aN6SYxXr2fyiaMInFf70Qau9SF2CdyTPF7NuGat_U_rPbsBnDQcXM_QK6cNhUxOQEfEcvcOJTkmmaVK9UT1JUTvGdPUhdLb86i7UUQwnIkK3q/s1600/20160128_082106-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="154" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKrPugOHhoOkJ53XP7_i4ogSeBdZHVRV9aN6SYxXr2fyiaMInFf70Qau9SF2CdyTPF7NuGat_U_rPbsBnDQcXM_QK6cNhUxOQEfEcvcOJTkmmaVK9UT1JUTvGdPUhdLb86i7UUQwnIkK3q/s320/20160128_082106-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
After following the instructions on how to make the applique pieces I chose to machine stitch my pieces with Monopoly thread. Remember you will need to reduce your tension so the thread won’t stretch. You could also use coordinating cotton thread to sew down the pieces. I used a zig zag stitch that I lengthened and reduced the width slightly so the thread just catches the applique piece and the background piece. If you are machine stitching the pieces I also recommend using a stabilizer such as Shape Flex. I prefer Shape Flex because it is fusible and light weight so you don’t get a lot of bulk.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIZ9ke6NUWTxY-09x79HmKvaUGQdmRdXlsw3ZB8tP10GmtHmYFXHwrQUEAb0vmhy1UMzHU6TjaIVZ7aYsqopY8zlcpEseliNKtWJSO98pIw6a9rRD6G7cMI3QVxx7a46jaJW_rqim5P0xG/s1600/20160129_144526.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIZ9ke6NUWTxY-09x79HmKvaUGQdmRdXlsw3ZB8tP10GmtHmYFXHwrQUEAb0vmhy1UMzHU6TjaIVZ7aYsqopY8zlcpEseliNKtWJSO98pIw6a9rRD6G7cMI3QVxx7a46jaJW_rqim5P0xG/s320/20160129_144526.jpg" width="179" /></a></div>
<br />
So I have finished blocks 1 and 2 from the sew along and await block 3. If you take the class, which I highly recommend especially if you are new to applique and templates, the blocks will be done in a different order. The benefit of class is that you will get personal instruction and hands on experience making these blocks and learning the techniques.
<br />
<br />
So Happy Sewing until the next block is done!
<br />

<br />
Well I am off and running with this new foundation piecing block of the month. Aquarius was released from <a href="http://fromblankpages.blogspot.com/">Diane Bohn of From Blank Pages</a> and I just couldn’t wait to get it started. I was convinced that some end of bolt fabrics had to come home with me so I made them my focus colors for this new project. The girls always tease me that teal is my secret favorite color so I am embracing it. The teal Dit Dot from In the Beginning Fabrics and lime green Squared by Art Gallery were my “homeless” fabrics that needed a purposed. The rest I added to make the project complete.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhErMEoon9crPaThzY1kWBUPFCBaIMX20M5ADRoYIdrrUHxd2JVLJVsxxVOYY6TMpjiuc7UB74eIYhPZl0LHDCJ3XXrBQ2u-p-Y_LnoPv69ChujZhdfSTsLAl26PSX7lvao1MnDF_ajPQV_/s1600/20160124_103902-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhErMEoon9crPaThzY1kWBUPFCBaIMX20M5ADRoYIdrrUHxd2JVLJVsxxVOYY6TMpjiuc7UB74eIYhPZl0LHDCJ3XXrBQ2u-p-Y_LnoPv69ChujZhdfSTsLAl26PSX7lvao1MnDF_ajPQV_/s320/20160124_103902-1.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
<br />
I haven’t really done a lot of foundation piecing so this was a big undertaking to decide to do this year. I was pleased to find that the pattern is very well written and even has coloring pages to plan out the block and the quilt. While I don’t normally plan my quilts out far enough to require coloring pages I truly needed it this time. I wanted to make sure I made the lattice show up but I also wanted to focus on some of the secondary patterns to make them pop also.
<br />

<br />
Over the weekend I tackled block #1: Aquarius and am pleased with the results. Now to patiently wait for block #2.

For those of you who are new we are following along with <a href="http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/how-to-quilt/finishing/2016-ufo-challenge">AllPeopleQuilt.com</a> 2016 UFO Challenge. We started last month taking in peoples resolution lists of UFO’s they wanted to complete in 2016. We have 15 people who have turned in their UFO Resolution sheets with us.
<br />
<br />
For those that turned in their resolution sheets in January we are giving away a prize to those who complete their assigned UFO for the month. Here are a few that we got to see done.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbzLBzBf-ZZPNX8bTOu23EYYyS6KsFNUUKBaQi_sRW_00wQOEf8_JyvB0KMu2AD55RaGD1T8b-AfQ7ApYd1MJuySOkLMtibZd8DOASJ8W5sJ2v47j1pm2_V8oRKUpPuC7WdlDLynU1XhjZ/s1600/lbragerufojan2016.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbzLBzBf-ZZPNX8bTOu23EYYyS6KsFNUUKBaQi_sRW_00wQOEf8_JyvB0KMu2AD55RaGD1T8b-AfQ7ApYd1MJuySOkLMtibZd8DOASJ8W5sJ2v47j1pm2_V8oRKUpPuC7WdlDLynU1XhjZ/s200/lbragerufojan2016.jpg" width="150" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7vFca_CJ482I09jdxeOuajqrvG8LAN1xnVoM97AIICZWy-Yu1PEmiKvsENbWeYaPqiMBXq-6Gqq_fdG5_EMXRJbk4G_fMoo5LZMAu8RG6EwmOBLW7C35zxOfidPk9Hc_tifsDLXDMsFaV/s1600/sharonsearjpg.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7vFca_CJ482I09jdxeOuajqrvG8LAN1xnVoM97AIICZWy-Yu1PEmiKvsENbWeYaPqiMBXq-6Gqq_fdG5_EMXRJbk4G_fMoo5LZMAu8RG6EwmOBLW7C35zxOfidPk9Hc_tifsDLXDMsFaV/s200/sharonsearjpg.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
So if you are already on board and following along the assigned UFO for this month is #5.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Remember if want to be in the drawing for the month you need to come in the shop and show us your completed UFO by February 29th.

<br />
<br />
Our group of players are <a href="http://www.laurelpoppyandpine.com/" target="_blank">Lorinda</a> -from Laurel, Poppy and Pine, Trina (my internet elf) from <a href="http://inanotterlife.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">In An Otter Life</a>, <a href="http://www.shimmyandmore.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Steph of Shimmy and More</a>, and <a href="http://thatssewcreative.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Yvonne</a> from Quilty Dream.
<br />
<br />
So this weeks #colorplayfriday was one of Trina’s pictures from her first date with Nathan. We definitely have more color choices this time compared to last weeks. I love color so this makes my happy. I am really glad I joined this group. Being forced to work with colors and palettes I’m not used to is really teaching me to stretch how I see color. This is a great skill building experience.
<br />
<br />
Trina couldn’t go wrong with her choice of pics this time. It just makes me hungry looking at it. Yummy buttery corn. Hot, steamed mussels and crab. Juicy kielbasa. Now I need a trip to the Crab Pot.
<br />
<br />
The fabric palette makes it even more fun. Who doesn’t love little pink hearts? I could almost even see making a quilt with these colors. I went with a bold rich palette to do this picture justice.
<br />
<br />
Here is my palette for the week.
